The light of at the end of the wedding-planning tunnel is in sight and you’re sorting out your last few bits. We are jealous in the extreme, but we won’t begrudge you our top tips on the best sun creams for your honeymoon; sun safety is practically at recreational activity at Only a Wedding headquarters.

Best For Very Hot Weather: Shiseido WetForce Expert Sun Range, €19.20 – €39.80

If you’re expecting extreme heat and humidity on your honeymoon, look to Shiseido’s WetForce range. It’s made to withstand the sweatiest climates, dips in the sea and sun showers. WetForce is a broad range and there’s not a single dud in the line up, but look to the Aging Protection Lotions for non-greasy facial protection.

Best For City Sun: Kiehl’s Ultra Light Daily UV Defense Sunscreen SPF 50, €41

This cult favourite is a dream to work with. It’s quickly absorbed and light in texture, so is perfect for applying under makeup and topping up throughout the day. If you can stretch to it, the largest tube is much better value than the smaller size – you get double the product for just €9 more.

Best Quick Fix: SkinCeuticals Mineral Radiance UV Defense SPF 50, €41

If you’re fair or lightly tanned, SkinCeuticals has one of the best tinted sun protection creams on the market. It feels like nothing on the skin and can be layered regularly without caking. It provides a little bit of coverage and glow; a handy option if daytime makeup doesn’t slot into your itinerary.

Honeymoon Sun Cream Bonus Tips

  • If your SPF is new to you, pop a layer on before you go on honeymoon (but not before your wedding!). Sun creams can cause sensitive skin and eyes to react, and nobody wants to start married life with a rash on their face.
  • Always make sure your sun cream provides broad spectrum protection, i.e. protection from UVA and UVB rays.
  • HEAP it on. Sun cream only works properly if it’s applied properly, and studies show that most people don’t apply it properly. For the face, apply as thick a layer as you find comfortable.
