City Hall & Cleaver East Restaurant Wedding | Sinead and Kevin’s Dublin Wedding

Our second real wedding features Kevin and Sinead, a Dublin couple who decided to keep it local for their big day. It’s the city where the live, where they met and where they kissed for the first time.

“Our florist was The Green Door in Killester. We had our first kiss in 2004, about five metres from her front door so it felt right!”

Sinead spent the morning of the wedding in her family home, getting ready for the day with her two beautiful sisters at her side.

The makeup look is the work of one of our all-time favourite artists, Siobhán McDonnell. At the time of writing, Siobhán has retired from the beauty industry, but her YouTube channel is still live and full of wedding inspiration. She is incredible.

Sinead found the perfect nude lip by Charlotte Tilbury and her earrings were her ‘something borrowed’, courtesy of her mother-in-law.

Another lovely local touch came with the veil, custom-made by Fitzpatrick’s Veils of Ireland.

“Phyllis had been commuting from Wexford to work on my dress and veil for months. The taxi home after my hen party, the driver was asking if it was my birthday etc and we explained I was getting married and he was like ‘Oh, my wife’s business is making veils in Wexford’ only in Ireland!”

Shoe fiends might recognise Sinead’s wedding heels, pictured above and looking glam in the extreme. She went for Christian Louboutin Crissos via Selfridges. The actual dream.

When it came to the dress, Sinead settled on the one after just two afternoons.

“The beautiful lacework made me weak the second I saw it but, when I fitted it on and saw how it managed to be classy and elegant yet also, dare I say it, sexy at the same time, I knew it was right.”

While photographer Lucy Nuzum captured the morning with Sinead, Katya Koliban was on hand to photograph Kevin in his parent’s home.

“We eschewed the cost of a videographer (we asked our cousins and siblings to capture video instead) and put that towards having a second perspective on the day. I can’t recommend Katya or the second shooter concept enough – there is such depth and narrative in our pictures as a result.”

City Hall is one of Dublin’s most beautiful ceremony-only venues. Sinead and Kevin kept things simple when it came to venue decor, there’s enough drama from the ornate ceiling, stained-glass dome and pillars. The reception venue was just minutes away, at Cleaver East restaurant in Temple Bar.

“Ultimately, we wanted food to be the focus but, very few restaurants can cater for 100 guests at once AND host an afterparty. We hadn’t even eaten at Cleaver East prior to booking, but its reputation preceded it so, we nipped down over lunch one Monday and the vibe was right (cool, modern, laid-back, urban) so, we booked it there and then!”

The proximity of the ceremony and reception venues allowed Sinead and Kevin to get from A to B by foot, posing for some gorgeous shots along the way. Let them serve as a reminder that rain on your wedding day isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just be sure you’re equip with a photogenic umbrella!

Keeping everything local also afforded the couple a chance to check in with each other before the day got away from them.

“Kevin and I nipped up to our suite in the Clarence to drop off some gifts and freshen up about halfway through the evening and, while not the most pivotal moment of the day, to have that second of respite to take it all in and just look at each other now as husband and wife was so lovely. It’s something I would recommend every couple make a point of doing – carving out 10 minutes away from the madness to bask in the awesome thing that just happened.”

We love an alternative dessert, so are fully on board with Sinead and Kevin’s cheese cake. Guests with sweeter tastes were catered to with crowd-pleasing single-serve desserts.

“Kevin’s uncle has been a baker for 56 years so, in lieu of a traditional cake, we had him make really old-school feel good bakery treats like doughnuts, cream slices, coffee slices and éclairs which were a huge hit!”

After a night of celebrations, the couple bid farewell to their guests and retired to The Clarence. Sinead notes that a contingent, led by her father, set off for Coppers, but she thought better of arriving at the club her wedding dress. Very wise, in our opinion – imagine the memes!

When asked what advice they would offer to couples who are soon to tie the knot, Sinead and Kevin echoed our you do you philosophy:

“Expect the unsolicited advice and accept it with a smile and then either consider it or forget it. Ultimately, it’s your day and everyone has had or will have their own moment. So, if someone tells you that you “have” to do something, remind yourself that this is supposed to be an expression of you both as a couple and not what John and Mary down the road did.”

Love their style? We recommend following Sinead on Instragram for helpful travel vlogs (their Vietnamese honeymoon Highlight is incredible!) and engaging day-to-day Stories. The girl knows her food and her beauty. We’re unashamed fans.
