Afternoon tea is one of Ireland’s most popular alternatives to a night-on-the-tiles hen do. We’ve rounded up some of the cooler, more luxurious and more Only a Wedding-style places to have an afternoon tea hen party in Ireland. Pass the sugar!
Check out Cork’s Montenotte Hotel for afternoon tea without a doily in sight. It’s a cool, modern hotel in the city centre, a great base if you’re planning on going out on the town. If you really want to make a weekend of it, there’s also an on-site spa and leisure suite.
Another tea less ordinary, Dublin’s Vintage Tea Tours takes you and your brew around the city on an old-school Routemaster bus. It’s a nice option if you’re unfamiliar with the city and want to get some sightseeing done without wasting valuable eating time.
Prices start at €45 per person.

The Westin, Dublin
The Westin is known for its quirky and themed afternoon tea menus. The Mad Hatter’s Tea is one for larger parties, allowing for private hire of an entire suite. The Botanical Afternoon Tea is a boozy affair, centred around gin cocktails in small teapots.
Prices start at €42 per person.

Hillgrove Hotel, Monaghan
Hillgrove Hotel caters to hen parties like no other venue. There’s a range of weird and wonderful packages, from pottery making to CSI-themed day where your spouse-to-be is kidnapped.
Whether you go full Liam Neeson or not, traditional afternoon tea at the hotel is priced from just €18 per person.
If you’re tapas mad, check out small restaurant on the quays. The alternative afternoon tea menu swaps buns and biscuits for bruschetta, cured meats and cheeses. There’s plenty of choice in the wine menu, and the restaurant is minutes from Temple Bar – perfect if you’re planning on fitting in some more typical hen activities later in the day.
You might have been to Horetown House to celebrate weddings before, but the country house venue also puts on a mean afternoon tea. It’s one to book if you wanted a more chilled-out, classy hen party, far from the hustle and bustle of the city.
If you take your tea seriously, Cupan Taé in Galway should be on your radar. They stock more flavours and blends of tea than you could possibly get through in one weekend, but, should you try to, you’ll do it in the cutest surrounds we’ve seen.
Afternoon tea, including sandwiches with tea-inspired sandwiches (our kind of inspo!) starts at €20 per person.
We’ve featured Lough Eske in our list of the most luxurious wedding venues in Ireland, but the five-star hotel should be on your hen-party radar too. It’s our pick for brides and their pals who want to switch off and totally indulge.
